How to extract text from pdf
Text extraction pulls the readable text out of a PDF so you can copy it elsewhere. It reads text that is already embedded in the document; scanned pages need OCR instead.
- 1
Choose your PDF
Drop the document you want text from.
- 2
Extract
Click Extract text. The text is parsed in your browser and shown on the page.
- 3
Copy or download
Copy the text directly, or download it as a plain .txt file.
Your files never leave your device
Unlike most online PDF tools, this one uploads nothing. Everything runs inside your browser, so your document is never transmitted, never stored on a server, and never seen by anyone but you. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the internet entirely and the tool still works.
Frequently asked questions
- Are my files uploaded anywhere?
- No. Every operation runs inside your browser. The file is read into memory on your own device, processed there, and offered back to you as a download. It is never sent to a server, never stored, and never seen by anyone else. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
- Why did it return nothing?
- The PDF is probably a scan — an image of text rather than text itself. Use the OCR tool, which recognises characters in the image.
- Is the layout preserved?
- Extraction produces plain text in reading order. Columns, tables, and precise positioning are not reconstructed.
- Can I extract from a protected PDF?
- Not directly. A password-protected PDF must be unlocked first — use the Unlock tool with the document’s password, then run this tool on the result.
